Trainer’s Domain Areas of Practice

Siew Kee-Liong is a visual artist who specializes in large-scale photography and digital video. He works with both digital and analogue technology, with his digital works typically consisting of B&W photographs of people, while his analogue works feature found objects. He uses his storytelling skills, which he has developed through his extensive background in film and photography, to create narratives through his still and moving images. Inspired by experimental films from the 1960s, Kee-Liong approaches photographs and their negatives as a material for further manipulation.

Over the years, his artworks have gained international recognition, being exhibited in various global art spaces, including Singapore, Japan, and the United States. The most recent one was a solo exhibition in May 2022, titled ā€œObjects / åŗŸå¼ƒē‰©ä»¶ (II),ā€ held at the prestigious Gajah Gallery in Singapore. The exhibition showcased a collection of images that encouraged viewers to explore the intricate relationship between objects and their users. These objects, often overlooked or deemed as waste, possess a certain beauty in their impermanence. Kee-Liong’s ability to highlight the transient existence and the fleeting nature of the aesthetic appeal of discarded ordinary objects turned the exhibition into an inward experience for the viewer.

In 1991, Kee-Liong further pursued his passion for visuals by obtaining a Master of Fine Arts degree in Photography. His extensive background in both the technical and artistic aspects of his craft has allowed him to become an expert in his field and enhance the skill and depth of his work.

Since 2003, Kee-Liong has worked as a faculty member at The School of Film & Media Studies at Ngee Ann Polytechnic, where he teaches photography, motion graphics, and video production.
