/ Light

Everything we see begins with light.
Before there is composition, colour or subject, there is light.

2. Practice Library

"Begin with your own photographs."

A growing collection of observational invitations.

Not assignments.

Simply different ways to explore the idea through practice.

3. Newsletter Archive

A growing collection of observations.

Each newsletter revisits the same element from another perspective.

Over time this becomes a living archive rather than a sequence of lessons.

4. Seeing Through Photographs

Learning by looking together.

Throughout the year we explore photographs by artists whose work reveals something important about this dominant element.

Each entry brings together:

  • Featured photographer(s)
  • Selected photograph(s)
  • Short observations
  • Webinar discussion
  • Related newsletter(s)

The purpose isn't to study photographers.

It is to understand what they noticed—and how they transformed that seeing into photographs.

5. Photo Review Highlights

Learning through calibration.

These photographs come from member Photo Reviews.

Rather than celebrating "successful" photographs, they reveal how different people encountered the same idea.

Alongside each image are short observations from the review process.

Sometimes the photograph succeeds beautifully.

Sometimes it reveals something the photographer hadn't yet noticed.

Both become valuable learning moments.

6. Featured Photographs

A quiet gallery.

A collection of photographs centred on this dominant element.

Some by members.

Some by invited artists.

Some by photographers whose work continues to inspire.

No explanations.

No rankings.

Simply photographs to spend time with.

7. Companion Ideas

This idea rarely works alone.

Every dominant element naturally connects with others.

Here we suggest two companion elements that often strengthen or deepen what you've been exploring.

For Light, these might be:

Shadow
